Radio Novelli 4G Radio

Radio Novelli is an Italian company that has been making radios since 1956. Today at the IFA Global Press Conference in Rome, the company had a new digital radio to announce, and it’s like no other audio product we have ever come across. That is because the Radio Novelli 4G Radio packs in an FM Radio, a DAB radio, a Wi-Fi radio, a CD / DVD player, a webcam for making video calls, 2 mics and Gracenote music assistant support – all on a system running Android with 4G connectivity that can come from any standard LTE sim card.

On the outside, the Radio Novelli sports a retro-inspired look and it comes in a choice of red, white or black. But the retro design is contrasted by a 7-inch touchscreen display. Because the system comes running Android, that means the 4G radio will work with just about every audio and video streaming service, that includes YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Listening to music and you like what you hear? A “commercial button” will show up on the screen that will let you purchase the music without interrupting the music that is playing.

On the audio front, the Radio Novelli 4G Radio packs in 2 speakers – 2 active and 1 passive, along with a class D amplifier, so in terms of audio prowess, it is no slouch.

Radio Novelli’s 4G Radio will retail for $1,000 Euro (1,226.43) and it goes on sale on Amazon starting May 7th. That price tag is a lot to swallow, especially considering the 4G Radio will also be monetized with their “commercial button”, and that it lacks some popular features like Spotify Connect and Airplay.

Each year, the IFA Global Press Conference brings over 300 journalists together from around the world to learn about the latest consumer electronics trends ahead of IFA. Taking place in Berlin every September, IFA is Europe’s largest consumer electronics show and conference.
